Reliable Results For Young Smiles

Braces are an economical, durable, and time-tested approach to correcting tooth and jaw misalignments and improving overall oral function. That's why traditional braces can be a great choice for kids.

Children as young as seven can be candidates for braces depending on their stage of oral development and the nature and severity of their orthodontic issues. Braces can work well with a growing mouth of baby teeth but are also very effective at correcting orthodontic issues once the permanent teeth have come in.

Braces can be ideal as part of your child's early intervention treatment because they can guide the development of the mouth rather than working against already-established issues later on. This generally means less invasive, more straightforward treatment over time.

The Importance of Early Orthodontics for Kids

Developing orthodontic issues in children often benefit from early orthodontic intervention to prevent or reduce the need for more extensive treatment later in life. Braces may be part of your child's early treatment at Douglas Orthodontics.

The Benefits of Braces for Kids

Your child's unique personality and specific orthodontic condition will both factor into our orthodontic treatment recommendation for braces or Invisalign clear aligners.

Efficiency

The fact is, there are certain types of teeth and jaw misalignments that are simply more efficiently treated with braces because they can move teeth more quickly. For kids who aren't super excited about needing orthodontic treatment, braces may mean they can get it over with faster.

Compliance to Treatment

Unlike clear aligners, braces are fixed to the teeth and cannot be removed. This can be a benefit for kids who are not yet mature or patient enough to keep their aligners in as prescribed. Fixed braces can't be lost, and their durability makes them difficult to damage – all potential advantages for kids!

Aesthetics

While traditional metal braces and even self-ligating braces don't have the discreet appearance that Invisalign aligners have, they do offer customization options. Colored elastics can be added and changed throughout treatment, meaning your child can choose fun colors based on their mood, the seasons, or even their favorite sports teams!

Braces at Douglas Orthodontics

Traditional orthodontic braces use brackets, elastic bands, and wires to gradually shift and straighten teeth.

But the braces of today aren't the clunky, uncomfortable face-full-of-metal contraptions that you might be picturing from decades ago. Today's modern braces are more streamlined, more comfortable, and (dare we say?) cooler than ever.
